Google Glass Will Google Glass Obliterate the Smartphones

Google Glass – Will Google Glass Obliterate the Smartphones?

A couple of decades ago, people wanted their mobile phones to do more than just being able to receive calls. Over the years, the technology of mobile phones continued to evolve until it was able to fulfil the wishes of every mobile phone user and more. With the arrival of the smartphones, people are now able to do more than just send messages or make phone calls with their mobile phones. They can take pictures, browse the Internet, do office work, and even other menial tasks like measuring calorie intake for a particular food item.
However, one particular gadget is said to be threatening the very existence of smartphones: the Google Glass. Are the speculations true?

Google Glass is probably the epitome of wearable technology, although there have been predecessors which did things outside the Google Glass’s scope of functionality. Basically, the Google Glass can function like a smartphone, minus the message and email composition. Other features like taking pictures and videos, browsing data and the Internet, or even accessing the GPS are found in the Google Glass.

What does this mean for smartphone users?
The new smartphone models like the Samsung SIV and iPhone S5 are becoming obtrusive, or too big. They just won’t fit naturally inside our pockets anymore because of their space. Google Glass removes this burden, all thanks to its size. The power and functionality of a tablet or smartphone is packed into a spectacled eyewear, so the obtrusiveness is removed. Simply put, if everything Google announced regarding the features of Google Glass is true, it would completely or partially remove the necessity of smartphones. Today, Google Glass is still hush about what the Google Glass can actually do.

In a recent campaign, Google gave out the Google Glass to adventurers in the hopes of capturing their escapades, from skydiving to mountain climbing. The result was a phenomenal success. The adventurers loved the idea of being able to record and take pictures of their journey without having to burden themselves with a camera.

This also brings back the potential for human interaction because people won’t need to look at their phones when they want to browse the Internet or read messages. Everything can be done through the Google Glass, so the interaction between client and customer is not hindered by the sight of a mobile phone. Google has already announced that Google Glass will come with a MyGlass app, which allows it to be synched through any Android phone. This allows users to view messages, GPS data, and even make a phone call using the voice-to-text functionality of the mobile phone.
